CAPPRY ROVERS
Cappry Rovers 3-2 Raphoe Town.
Cappry secured all three points in an entertaining game played in Cappry Park. Brendan McLaughlin opened the scoring for Cappry in the 14th minute when he scored with a shot past the diving keeper. Cappry scored again in the 26th minute when Stephen Carr won the ball and he lifted it over the advancing keeper. Aaron Kelly made it three for Cappry in the 42nd minute when he drilled a low shot to the corner of the net. Raphoe tried in vain in search of a goal but to no avail.
Half Time 3-0.
Raphoe went on the attack in the second half in search of a quick goal and they were rewarded in the 56th minute when they were awarded a penalty following an infringement and Ryan McCullagh scored from the spot. Cappry created a few chances but couldn’t score. Raphoe reduced the score in the 75th minute when D.J. Kelly scored after he beat the offside trap to score from close range. Both sides created a few chances but they failed to score.
Darren O’Leary, Stephen Carr and Gerald Melaugh were best for Cappry.
Seamus Bogle and David Craig were best for Raphoe.
CAPPRY ROVERS U16’s
Our under 16’s were in Champions League action at the weekend when they travelled to Letterkenny to face tough opponents in Letterkenny Rovers. In a tightly contested game Cappry grabbed the opening goal with Jamie Keegan on target. Although both teams had chances in the 1st half, nobody could find the back of the net. Cappry went in at the break 1-0 up. Letterkenny upped their game in the 2nd half and took full advantage of playing at their home ground. They managed to grab 2 goals in the 2nd half to send them through to the semi finals. It was hard luck on our lads who had an excellent season but just came up a bit short on the day. The club are very proud of this bunch of players who have been outstanding all season and with a bit more luck at the weekend could have went through themselves.
CAPPRY ROVERS U12’s
Our under 12’s made the long journey to Glasserchoo to play Glenea Utd in the quarter finals of the Champions League. Cappry started brightly and opened the scoring when Shaun Ward scored. Andrew Murray made it 2-0 when he took the ball from centre half and beat up to 6 players and struck the ball between the keepers legs to the back of the net. In the 2nd half Glenea upped their game and got back into it when a mistake in the Cappry back line allowed them to pull a goal back. Cappry didn’t let it affect them and shortly after they were 2 goals in front again when Mark Mbuli got their 3rd of the game. Glenea got another lifeline when they were awarded a soft penalty near the end of the match. Cappry held out for the victory and are through to the semi-finals where they will be back on the road again to visit Keadue Rovers.
Before that there is the small matter of an Ulster Final in the SFAI National Cup next Saturday when they travel to Letterkenny to face Bonagee Utd. Kick off at the Dry Arch is at 10.30 and all support is very welcome as the lads try to once again make it through to the next stage of the competition. All at the club would like to extend our good wishes to the management and players.
