Gardai are hunting a gang who attempted to carry out a number of break-ins along the border in St Johnston and Killea over the weekend.

It is understood two men using a car were spotted ‘casing up’ houses in the villages in the early hours.

Two males were spotted in a garden in Castletown/Moness are of St.Johnston at around 2.40am on Saturday morning.

One of the men was spotted on foot approaching a shed but when the lights were activated in the house the man ran and fled to a waiting car.

Just half an hour later at around 3am, another man was spotted in a silver car at the bottom of a cul-de-sac in nearby Killea.

Another male was observed trying the door of a car further up the street which was parked outside a house. Both males got into the Silver car and drove off.

Gardai have been informed of both incidents and are investigating.

Residents are asked to secure their property and report any suspicious activity to Gardai.
