Donegal County Council have warned that roads may remain slippy today following the cold snap last night in which temperatures plummeted to -3.
Similar temperatures are expected tonight, with freezing fog returning with lows of -3 and highs of +2.
Donegal County Council gritters have been out since 6 this morning on roads throughout the county.
Caution is encouraged as there may be black ice on the roads. The Council urge drivers to assume that “no road is ice-free”.
Met Eireann report that tonight “apart from a few showers near the north coast, it will be dry tonight, but very cold with a widespread frost and with freezing fog returning. Lowest temperatures of -3 to +2 degrees in a light to moderate northerly breeze.”

This afternoon, most of the slippy roads are concentrated in the South-East of the county however all drivers should exercise caution regardless of their location as black ice may have settled on the roads.
