A total of 177 primary school across Donegal are to get a slice of a €28.5M minor works grant scheme announced today.
Fine Gael Minister of State Joe McHugh TD welcomed the announcement this afternoon by the Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton T.D., of the details of a €28.5m minor works grant for primary schools throughout the country.
Donegal is the third highest number of schools to avail of the funding in the Country.
Minister McHugh said “€28.5 million is being made available by the Government for the payment of a Minor Works grant to primary schools around the country. Schools in Donegal will be able to use this funding to improve the physical infrastructure of schools. They can also use the grant for the purchase of furniture, as well as PE and IT equipment.
“I’m very aware of the great work being done in schools across Donegal and this funding will help Boards of Management and school principals in this county and nationwide to improve facilities and equipment for both pupils and teachers.
“This grant is worth €5,500 per school plus €18.50 per mainstream pupil and €74 per special needs pupil to 177 schools in Donegal. This means €6,425 for a 50 pupil school and over €11,000 for a 300 pupil school, with the schools due to receive the funds over the coming weeks.”
The works that can be undertaken under the Minor Works Grant include improvements to school buildings and grounds, improvement or replacement of mechanical and electrical services, the purchase of standard furniture and physical education equipment, the purchase of floor coverings and window blinds and the purchase of IT related equipment.
Minister Joe McHugh, “This is positive news for primary schools here in Donegal who will benefit from this funding to upgrade school buildings and improve facilities for students and teachers.”
