Letterkenny University Hospital is extremely overcrowded once again today, with 45 people recorded waiting for beds this morning.
This afternoon’s figures from the INMO Trolley Watch show that 26 people were left on trolleys in the Emergency Department as they waited to be admitted.
Letterkenny Hospital had the highest levels of overcrowding in the country today alongside Cork University Hospital.
Today’s high count follows weeks of consistent overcrowding in which the hospital management have had to implement Full Capacity Protocol.
The Trolley Watch figures count the number of people on beds, trolleys or chairs, on inpatient wards/units.
Patients have been told to expect long delays while the hospital has also deferred all non-urgent elective procedures.
The public has once again been told this week to attend the Emergency Department only in the case of real emergencies and they should contact their GP or GP Out-of-Hours service in the first instance.
Letterkenny University Hospital has apologised to patients and their families for any distress caused as a result of the delays.
