BUMBLEance, Ireland’s National and the World’s first interactive ambulance service designed specifically for children, has announced its expansion into Donegal and the North West.
A regional BUMBLEette vehicle, which will be launched in 2017, will assist children who must travel for medical treatment but do not require a paramedic on board.
The BUMBLEette will transport sick children, for free, to appointments, surgery, and treatments in Dublin.
BUMBLEance ensures that the journey of a sick child who needs ambulance transportation to and from a treatment centre and their home is the most safe and comfortable journey possible.
A spokesperson for the charity said; “We already bring children with Cancer for Chemo with our Childrens Chemo Cab Service and those with many other severe conditions but we want to do more!”
The initiative is part of The Saoirse Foundation, which was set up by Tony and Mary Heffernan in 2010. When their daughter Saoirse was diagnosed with Batten’s Disease in 2009, they had no information on the disease and did not know where to turn for help. They vowed to change that, and established The Saoirse Foundation with the aim of enriching the lives of children with Batten’s Disease and their parents.
