A Donegal councillor has called for council meetings to be streamed online for public viewing.
Independent Councillor for Glenties Micheál Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig has said that it is important that what goes on at council level can be viewed by the public.
“In the interest of transparency and accountability I believe it’s important that the public can view for themselves what’s being said and done” said Mac Giolla Easbuig.
“What is being said at council meetings might not always be the same as what’s being relayed to the public. Other council meetings in other parts of the country are currently available for public viewing so I think it would be a positive step to introduce it to Donegal County Council.”
At present, cameras at council meetings for Dublin City, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown and Fingal County Council allow for the public to watch the proceedings online. Other county council websites also allow people to watch back on archived footage of past meetings.
