A call has been made to management at Letterkenny University Hospital to meet with Sir Gerry Robinson to examine ways of improving services at the hospital.
It follows yet ANOTHER situation today when the hospital’s Full Capacity Protocol was implemented.
Patients have been told to expect long delays while the hospital has also deferred all non urgent elective procedures.
Now County Councillor Gerry McMonagle, a member of the Regional Health Forum, has demanded the hospital look at new ways of addressing problems at the hospital.
He said that with Sir Gerry Robinson’s experience in addressing the problems of the NHS in Britain, there is no reason why he should not be approached for his views.
“He has the experience in addressing the failings of a much bigger health system so why could he not look at the failings of Letterkenny Hospital.
“The problem is that management at the hospital are so busy with crisis management that they do not have time to stand back and see that a review of the service is needed.
“But it is critical at this stage that something is done. How long can this be allowed to happened and for people’s surgery to be canceled and for people to sit waiting in emergency departments for hours,” he asked.
Councillor McGonagle will attend the next meeting of the Regional Health Forum next Tuesday and says he has a list of motions for debate including the number of beds and nurses available in the hospital compared to five years ago.
