LYIT Ladies GAA secured a victory in Belfast on Wednesday that will secure them a place in the Division 3 league play off, a game that is scheduled for the 16th of November with a venue and the opposition to be decided.
But the main feature of the afternoon in Belfast was the manner in which the LYIT club romped home to victory.
The scores came from Lucy O’Flynn, Sarah Jane McDonald, Rachel McGee, Aine O’Reilly, Emilie Gavin and Victoria Kelly.
The LYIT Ladies had a lead of 2-08 to 0-2 points at the half time break and from there they pushed on to win by a score of 4-11 to 0-4.
The team lined out for the game as a 13-a-side team to facilitate the shortage of players due to academic commitments.
But to suggest that the LYIT Ladies were under strength would be unfounded. Based on the defensive capabilities of Gemma Glackin, Sinead Martin &Annie Rose Quinn the team kept the opposition under pressure for the entire first half of the game with Pamela McMahon having a solid performance in goal for her first time with the club.
The final goal of the day came from the hand of Lucy O’Flynn who contested a ball ,well placed, in the goal area by Sarah Jane McDonald from a free kick.
Both Rachel McGee and Lucy O’Flynn pressured the Queens goalkeeper Aideen Fallon and as the ball broke Lucy O’Flynn slotted home from close range
Great performances from Sinead Martin, Geraldine Ruane, Victoria Kelly, Rachel McGee and Emilie Gavin.
