Great day out for Swilly Seals at Bangor.
Thirty two swimmers from the club had an early rise on Sunday 6th November leaving Letterkenny at 5.30am to compete in the Bangor Minors Meet.
This competition is aimed at swimmers of eleven years and younger.
This was the first competition for many swimmers who with their parents were amazed at the marvellous facilities at the Bangor Aquatic Centre.
All swimmers gave a good account of themselves with many making the finals from their heats.
Aoibheann Sheridan made the finals in all her events placing 6th in the Butterfly, 6th in the Individual Medley, 9th in Breaststroke and 10th in the Freestyle. A great achievement for the 7 year old.
Orla Carey appeared in three finals including the Butterfly 4th, 6th in the Individual Medley and 7th in the Backstroke. Orla showed great power and technique throughout the day.
Brian Sukevics had a great day making finals in the Butterfly placing 8th, 8th also in the Freestyle and 10th on the Backstroke.
Eva Mc Ginley placed 9th in the Backstroke final in a tough race showing great technique.
Senan Martin made no less than four finals placing 9th in the Butterfly and Backstroke finals and 7th in the Individual Medley he also placed 10th in the Breaststroke.
Luke Mc Guinness had a busy day he came 7th in the Backstroke and Breaststroke finals and 4th in the Freestyle final narrowly missing out on a medal.
Hannah Shiels placed 9th in the Butterfly final showing great class.
Young Aisling Nulty in her first competition placed 8th in the Backstroke final.
Oran Mulligan narrowly missed out on a medal in the Breaststroke placing 4th.
Noah du Plessis had a fine race placing 5th in the Freestyle final.
There were lots of medals also with Shay Maloney taking Bronze medals in the Backstroke and Butterfly with fine swims.
Eilish Russell also collected two medals. Bronze in the Freestyle and Silver in the Individual Medley. She also made appearances in the Breaststroke and Butterfly finals placing 5th and 6th respectively.
Cillian Murphy picked up Bronze in the Breaststroke final and also placed 7th in the Butterfly and 6th in the Freestyle and Backstroke finals.
Peter Coyle placed 10th in the Freestyle final and won Bronze in the Breaststroke final with excellent swims.
Bronze Medals were also won by the mixed Freestyle Relay team of Orla Malseed, Riann Sheridan, Brian Sukevics and Luke Mc Guinness in an exciting race.
Well done to all swimmers who took part. A big thanks to all the parents and coaches who travelled also.
