Letterkenny is set to have a brand new courthouse complex in 2017, but it has emerged that no public parking will be provided on site.
The modern structure is being built off the High Road of Letterkenny, on a site which had been used as a car park in recent years following the demolition of the old swimming pool.
The High Road already has limited parking space, and the expected influx of people to the area once the courthouse open could be a major traffic problem.
Plenty of spaces will be available for staff, gardai and judges on the site, but there will be no parking allocated for members of the public attending the courts.
The large courthouse which is still under construction will have four courtrooms. It is planned to be completed by September 2017.
The Letterkenny courthouse is part of a €135 million project undertaken by construction and engineering group BAM. The contract involved upgrading courthouse facilities in seven different regions around Ireland.
