It was a game of highs and lows for Finn Harps at Ballybofey tonight.
They finished the season on a high after claiming all points against Dublin side Bohemians.
But the night was tinged with sadness as one of Harps’ greatest ever servants, Kevin McHugh, pulled on a Harps jersey for the last ever time.
There was a fitting tribute to the Killea man as he was given a huge send-off at half time.
After 438 games for the club in which he scored 186 goals, McHugh provided Harps fans with so many high points throughout his illustrious spells at the Donegal club.
But it was Bohemians who were providing the highpoints in the opening half hour as chances fell to Kurtis Byrne and Lorcan Fitzgerald.
When the breakthrough came it fell to Harps’ Ryan Curran who put Ollie Horgan’s side 1-0 up in the 44th minute after a speculative shot form the edge of the area beat Bohs ‘keeper Delaney.
Mark Quigley could have equalised for the Dubliners in the second half but Harps managed to shore things up at the back enough to keep Bohs at bay.
It was a positive end to a season which Harps started so well but lost their direction in the second half.
Ollie Horgan will have learned much and no doubt will be looking to strengthen his squad more more in the closed season.
But his goal has been achieved as Harps face another welcome term in the Premier Division next season.
