Middle-ranking gardaí are continuing with a second day of industrial action today in a dispute over pay restoration.
More than 2,000 sergeants and inspectors began their second-ever work-to-rule this morning at 7am, and for 24 hours will refuse to use the Garda IT system PULSE, take on admin duties and certain levels of correspondence from management.
These moves by the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors came as talks with Government officials failed to come to an agreement.
A similar work-to-rule strike took place last week, but has escalated further today as the association grow more frustrated with a lack of progress.
AGSI are campaigning for pay restoration of 16.5%, access to direct pay negotiations for future pay deals and recognition and implementation of the EU Social Committee’s decision of 2014.
A full-out strike is planned for next Friday, with more than 12,000 gardai planning to withdraw from work, and they will do so for four Fridays in a row until an agreement is reached.
