LOCAL charities are set to benefit after a judge issued an order for €2,700 to be released following a lengthy house dispute case.

A couple known as John and Jane Doe – now known to be Daniel and Marieka Green – had squatted at a bungalow at Rooskey, Newtowncunningham.

The Greens took over the house two years ago after failing to buy the property.

Several judges had signed orders for them to leave; but they had refused.

However facing a jail sentence for failing to move, they finally pulled out of the property.

The house belonged to the late Rev Sam Reede. It was left in his will to Charles Reede, his brother, who wanted to sell the house and donate the proceeds to local charities.

Barrister Fiona Crawford told Judge Karen Fergus that attempts to secure €20,000 owed to the estate by Daniel Green had failed as he had moved to the North.

However she said €2,700 was lodged with a local legal firm in Letterkenny and the firm was willing to hand this money over if the judge issued an order for them to do so.

Judge Fergus agreed and signed a court order for the money to be transferred to Mr Reede.

Green was given the ‘John Doe’ title as in the early stages of the legal case he had refused to give his name to court officials.
