Malin minors
Malin lost out in the division 3 county final against Glenfin on a scoreline of Malin 2-06 Glenfin 1-13. Patrick Collins had to deal with the absence of Tiarnan Stephens, who had been injured in the semi-final and their cause was dealt a further blow with the black card given to Joseph Doherty on the stroke of halftime. Patrick and his backroom team of Terence McLaughlin, Paul Gallagher, Martin Conlan and Colleen Feeney deserve great credit getting this far with the team and the work done this year has already seen Ryan Doherty and Connor McColgan play for the seniors and no doubt many more will follow. Glenfin took the lead with a point before Malin got their first goal when Connor McColgan scored. Glenfin replied with a pointed free from Stephen Carr. Josh Conlan then got Malin’s second goal after a good team move up the field saw Conor Bambrick pass across the square and Conlan coolly slotted low into the goal. Oisin McGonagle then drove over for Malin after a great ball in from Ciaran Doherty. Karl McGlynn hit a score from the left in reply. Glenfin then had a great spell hitting three points and a goal just before the break, Carr hit a second free, Matthew McGinley scored a free and burly full forward Adam Marley swung over before they hit a fortunate goal. Carr’s angled free dropped just below the bar and the Malin keeper did well to keep it out onto the bar but it rebounded back kindly for Karl McGlynn who was on hand to palm it in from close range, which left the halftime score Malin 2-01 Glenfin 1-06. Malin were dealt a further blow before halftime with the black card awarded against Joseph Doherty (PM). Glenfin opened the second half scoring with Matthew McGinley before Malin hit four scores without reply to move ahead, Connor McColgan hit over from 30 yards, Ciaran Doherty put over a 45′ and Conor McGeogeghan hit over a free before Doherty hit an excellent score from the outside of the boot out on the right. Glenfin came back again with a free from Carr and the same player hit a good score down the left hand side from play to edge ahead. Glenfin then pushed for home with Stephen Carr to the fore, he scored from play after working a short 45′ and he hit another free as well as a free from McGinley, which had been moved in for dissent. Conor McGeogeghan’s lobbed effort into the square to try and rescue a Malin goal went all the way over and it was left to Adam Marley to swing over the final point and win it for Glenfin on a scoreline of Malin 2-06 Glenfin 1-13. The minor management would like to thank the players for their effort, commitment and dedication throughout the year.
