The HSE has confirmed that hydrotherapy pool facilities have been reinstated at Our Lady’s Hospital in Manorhamilton.
The hydro pool, which had to cease patient referrals from Donegal and elsewhere a number of weeks ago due to on-going mechanical issues, is now fully operational following an extensive upgrade.
Welcoming the news, Deputy Pearse Doherty said “In September, I was contacted by a number of constituents who brought it to my attention that they had scheduled appointments cancelled for the hydrotherapy pool suite at Manorhamilton and staff advised them that the cancellations were as a result of re-occurring mechanical problems with the pool.
“Following these concerns, I immediately raised the matter with the Minister for Health who asked the HSE to respond directly to me with an update in relation to the issue.”
He said he was delighted to now have it confirmed today by the HSE that, following the pool having undergone an extensive upgrade, the problem has now been fully resolved.
He added “The facility is now operational while the pool is also fully compliant with hospital chemical safety policy which will ensure patient safety for all those using the suite.
“Of course this is terrific news for patients, many of whom travel from across Donegal, and who require the use of the hydrotherapy pool as part of their treatment for conditions such as arthritis and for pain relief.”
“Also, this incident further reinforces the importance of the campaign to provide an additional hydro-pool facility here in Donegal such as those proposed for Dungloe which Sinn Féin fully supports as such a facility would be of great benefit to patients here in our own county.”
