The decision by Ulster Council executives to force Intermediate champions Burt to play in the Ulster IFC today has been labelled a disgrace!
Burt and Milford played out two titanic clashes in their quest to land the Donegal IFC, and yesterday’s replay went to extra-time in search of a winner.
Burt eventual prevailed to land a historic title which will see them play in the Donegal SFC for the first time in the club’s history.
The Donegal County Board submitted a request last week to the Ulster Council to have the game put back a week, but that was denied by the Ulster Council.
It now means Burt will play in the first-round of the Ulster IFC just hours after winning the Donegal IFC.
The decision has appalled GAA fans across the county.
Sam Hegarty posted, “Fair played to Burt winning the intermediate championship in extra time this evening but Jesus christ, how are they meant to do themselves or the county justice in Ulster championship tomorrow?
“Both sides emptied the tanks and to ask the winners to swap pints for ice baths and swap celebrations for another big match preperation is a disgrace.
“The players should come first, simple as that.”
However, this isn’t the first time this has happened, in 2014, Cloughaneely won the IFC title, and the following day faced Castledawson and incredibly earned victory.
Hopefully Burt can repeat that today, but it will be incredible tough for them and let’s hope none of their players suffer an injury as a result of this ridiculous decision.
