Letterkenny Gaels GAA Club this week announced an eight night run of the Tommy Marren comedy play, It’s the Real McCoy at the club room at Pairc na nGael, Thorn Road, Letterkenny.
The cast and crew of last year’s sell out production of Widows’ Paradise return to perform another hilarious comedy that promises not to disappoint.
It’s the Real McCoy was written by Tubbercurry native Tommy Marren and is set in rural Ireland in the mid 1960s.
Its main character Madge Mulloy, played by Celine Bradley, has spent over 40 years in despair following the disappearance of her husband for no reason.
Madge’s only child Maura, played by Bernie Frain, is being pursued by the local postman, Martin Daly, played by Gary Coll. Father and Son duo Noel and Brian Sweeney return to the stage as Madge’s estranged husband Martin Molloy and the local priest Fr. Michael McCoy respectively.
The cast is completed by Bridgeen Carr and Sheila Sweeney who play the nosy pair of Nora and Cora O’Hora. This three act comedy will treat audiences to plenty of laughter, suspense and drama.
The hard working cast and crew have been practicing three nights a week for the last number of months under the guidance of director Paddy O’Connor. Club member Paddy O’Connor has over 20 years experience directing plays, musicals and pantomimes.
Paddy said “It’s great to be back again after the success of last year’s show”. “We’re delighted to be putting on a play written by a playwright from the North West”. “It’s the Real McCoy is one of the funniest plays I have ever worked on and audiences will love it”. “We have an excellent cast and the support from the club committee has been excellent”.
This hilarious comedy will run for 8 nights over two weekends from Thursday 13th to Sunday 16th and Thursday 20th to Sunday 23rd October in the Letterkenny Gaels Club room on Thorn Road.
Tickets can be bought at the Arena 7, George Sweeney’s Shop, Swilly Group Office on Business Park Road, from members of the cast or Letterkenny Gaels committee members. Contact Conor Crossan (087) 133 2680 for ticket information.
