The Three-Rivers Shotokan Karate-Club Lifford returned home with another great medal haul following a weekend of success in Dublin.
The club travelled to the National Basketball Arena in Dublin for the CIKA (Champions International Karate Association) European Open. This was the first time the competition has been held in Ireland.
This event drew some top talent from all over Europe as there was more than 700 entrants on the day. After a busy few weeks which saw the Three Rivers travel to Glasgow and Berlin to compete, the experience gained in these events paid dividends as they returned to Lifford with another great medal haul.
First up was the Kata section which saw Ciarán Crawford take silver and both Megan Gallagher and Ace Rodriguez perform great in their sections to take bronze each.
Next up was the Kumite section with Brodie Hannigan lifting a very well-deserved bronze, Emma Dolan adding another silver to her ever growing collection and the in-form brother duo of Ciarán and his younger brother Eoin Crawford yet again taking to the podium in first place.
The day came to a great end as the girls team of Emma Dolan, Jamie-Lee Simpson and Natasha Doherty won gold in the U14’s team event, leaving the Three-Rivers Shotokan Karate-Club in sixth place out of 45 clubs on the medals table. There was much excitement among the supporters in the arena as the girl’s team had their victory.
Next up for the club is the ONAKAI National Junior Kumite Championships in two weeks time.
