A Letterkenny mother whose money was stolen on her daughter’s fourth birthday has been overwhelmed by the kindness she received from strangers in her hour of need.
Liz Porter took her daughter Addison to McDonalds in Letterkenny for a birthday treat yesterday. However, shortly after taking her little girl to the bathroom she realised that she had left her purse and phone behind. She later found her belongings but was heartbroken to see that money had been taken from her purse, she told Donegal Daily.
Liz had not had a chance to buy a birthday cake for her daughter’s party before the theft took place. She reached out on Donegal Daily in the hope that the thief would have a change of heart and the money would be returned. What she didn’t expect was to receive great generosity and warm wishes from local people.
A knight in shining armour came to Liz’s rescue yesterday, as Jay Devine, the manager of Partyline Bouncy Castles in Tooban Burnfoot offered her free hire of a bouncy castle.
Little Addison’s birthday party was given an exciting new feature with a Frozen-themed bouncy castle installed in her garden. A fun-filled evening was in store for Addison and her friends.
“Maybe this is my good fortune,” Liz told Donegal Daily, “it was very very kind of him.”
Jay has played down his good deed with modesty. “A very little thing from us but could be the difference from putting the smile on a kid’s wee face,” he posted on Facebook.
Liz also took to Facebook to share her gratitude: “A very big warm thank you to Jay Devine, thank you so much for the bouncy castle for Addison’s party, you just made her day after our misfortune earlier you’re one in a million thanks again.”
Liz also received generous offers from strangers who were willing to donate toys as a birthday present to Addison, while other compassionate people who were sympathetic to her story offered to replace the sum of money stolen. Liz turned down the offers as she was already hugely grateful for the support she received.
