A young man who was driving the wrong way around a roundabout while ‘diffing’ in Letterkenny has been ordered to do a safer driving course.
On June 19th last, Gardai witnessed a black Lexus car diffing at Mountain Top in Letterkenny.
It came close to impacting with an oncoming car.
Gardai activated their sirens and stopped the driver who was Dylan Parker.
Gardai realised that Parker had no insurance on the vehicle and did not hold a driving license.
Solicitor Cormac Hartnett told the court that it was Rally Weekend and that his client suffered a “rush of blood to the head.”
He said Parker was employed on a full-time basis with a construction firm in Dublin and needed his driving license for how work.
Mr Hartnett said his client apologised and it was an act of “extreme stupidity.”
He added that Parker came from a well-known local family and it was a once off event which would not happen again.
Judge Paul Kelly adjourned the case until January 19th next and order Parker to complete the Pro Social Drivers Course and to maker a donation of €200 to complete the course.
But he warned Parker’s solicitor “I am not making any promises.”
