SPORT: THE BUTT HALL Tennis Club are holding a major tournament this week.
The Butt Hall Doubles Championships will run from Thursday next until Sunday, October 9, when the finals will be held at the club, based in Dreenan, Ballybofey.
The Butt Hall Tennis Club is on a big recruitment drive and this week hosts these Championships which have attracted entries from Donegal, Sligo, Fermanagh, Tyrone, Derry, Mayo and Dublin.
The new club at Dreenan was opened in 2011 and boasts four state-of-the-art Tiger Turf all weather tennis courts with floodlights, clubhouse and shower facilities.
“Our court surface is tiger turf, which is very resistant and provides for excellent drainage,” a Butt Hall Tennis Club spokesperson said.
“This means that you can play even when the courts are wet. Our court quality provides an excellent balance between comfort of play and ball speed under dry and wet conditions.
“The committee has put in place a solid court maintenance plan, which will guaranty quality of play and longevity for years to come.”
The club is led by the Chairman Freddie Lusson and the President, Dessie Griffin.
The current Back to School Promotion with 50 per cent off membership sees individual adult membership at €110, junior/student membership is at €30 and family membership is priced at €185.
The club had a full-time qualified coach available for private and group lessons for members.
The club is also running a competition at the moment offering tickets, flights and hote stay at next summer’s French Open at Roland Garros.
The prize is worth around €2,000. Tickets cost €50 and are limited to 200.
Tickets are available from any committee member or by contacting 087-3636931.
This week’s Butt Hall Doubles Championships are being sponsored by: Ready Steady Smiles; Centra, Ballybofey; Anthony Conaghan Cars; Alan

The club spokesperson added: “We will be arranging ongoing events at the club which include fun tournaments for adults and juniors, open nights etc and we would encourage you to join in as much as possible.
“A club night is run every Thursday from 7pm, where we mix and match players in doubles and mixed doubles. This is a great way to be introduced to new players.”
