Senator Pádraig Mac Lochlainn has contacted both Irish Water and HSE management over reports of water contamination at St Conal’s Hospital and Campus in Letterkenny.
Senator Mac Lochlainn has learned that staff working in the Campus have received emails warning them not to drink from the water supply there, due to contamination and that they are to drink water from bottles as boiling the water does not resolve the contamination.
He said; “Staff are understandably very concerned about this notice and its implications. They are asking how long has the water supply to the Campus been contaminated? And how often has it been tested? And most importantly, what are the health concerns for those who have been drinking this water?”
“I have made contact with both Irish Water and HSE management seeking urgent clarification on this matter. A public statement needs to be made by both bodies about the circumstances that led to this notice to staff and the course of action that will now unfold.”
“They also need to confirm that they have notified the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as is required under law and that the EPA are independently investigating this contamination.”
