Glenswilly squeezed through to the final of the Michael Murphy Sports and Leisure Donegal Senior Football Championship after a tense outing against Malin at O’Donnell Park.
There was little between the sides at any stage and indeed the pair went in 0-5 a piece at half time.
Both sides squandered a lot of point opportunities but Glenswilly did finally manage to get ahead in the final quarter.
Despite having a decent game for Malin, Brendan McLaughlin was guilty of missing a number of possible points from frees.
Declan Walsh and Stephen Byrne put in big shifts for the Inishowen team with McLaughlin using his pace to test the Glenswilly rearguard throughout.
Gary McFadden was guilty of a number of misses but he came good when it counted to push his side ahead by 0-7 to 0-6 with Glenswilly’s big guns Neil Gallagher and Michael Murphy (0-4) chipping in with points to make it a final scoreline of 0-9 to 0-7.
Tempers spilled over at the end of the contest and referee Seamus McGonigle had to be given an escort off the pitch to avoid disgruntled Malin officials and players.
Glenswilly were just about value for the win but will have to improve in the final if they are to overcome the winners of Kilcar and Naomh Chonail who meet this evening at MacCumhaill Park.
