BUSINESS: A massive Donegal business unit which used to employ up to 900 people at its peak – has been sold for over €2million.
Unifi closed in 2004 – with the loss of over 300 jobs at the time.
However, following the sale of the large commercial unit, there is optimism that investment could be made in the area which would lead to job creation.
Selling agent Brendan McGlynn and Associates Limited, Letterkenny, along with Savills, Belfast confirmed that the old Unifi premises was bought for over €2million by a private investor.
Unifi’s employees were split between the two different plants – “Plant 1” – was demolished following the closure of the company in Donegal – and the newer “Plant 2” has been vacant for several years.
Approximately 50 acres of commercially zoned sites – which can be used for various purposes (such as car showrooms, retail warehousing, industrial warehousing or medical park development) – were put on the market originally.
