SPORT: This Saturday an exciting new chapter in North West Basketball begins when for the first time LYIT-Donegal will field a team in the Irish National Basketball League.
As part of a long term plan to develop basketball in the region and in association with Basketball Ireland and NW Regional Basketball Clubs and Schools, LYIT-Donegal has entered a representative team in the Irish National League in order to help bring Basketball in the North West to a higher level.
In this, the opening game of the 2016/2017 season, LYIT-Donegal will face tough opponents as they come up against one of the pre-season favourites to win the League, the Ulster University Elks.
It promises to be a competitive and exciting game and we would advise anyone wishing to attend to get there early!
The LYIT-Donegal team is comprised of students and elite players from the local clubs in Letterkenny, Donegal, Derry and Tyrone.
The team is also bolstered by two American Victory Scholars who are studying at LYIT as part of the Sport Changes Life programme, and their Partner the Rory Foundation.
T-John Casiello and Jack Mackey will be an integral part of the team this year and will also be coaching basketball with clubs and schools in the region.
LYIT’s home venue is An Danlann on LYIT’s campus.
Admission is from 3.30pm with a tip off time of 4pm.
Refreshments will be available before and during the Game in An Danlann Café.
Admission is €5 for adults with children €3, families are particularly welcome at a special admission fee of €10.
