SAFETY WARNING: Fears have been raised and a public warning has been issued after a Portuguese Man of War was found washed up off the Donegal coastline.
The notorious jellyfish has the most dangerous sting of any sea creature and are extremely dangerous dead or alive.
Kincasslagh Harbour posted the following statement and images on their Facebook timeline.
“We have had confirmed reports of a number of Portuguese Man of War.
“These have the appearance of jelly fish but technically are a number of sea animals all attached as a group.
“They have what is considered the most dangerous sting of any sea creature and are dangerous dead or alive. The sting is from the very long tentacles.
“Please DO NOT touch, keep animals away. If stung seek medical attention immediately.
“Considered a serious risk to people who may suffer Anaphylaxis.”
The deadly jellyfish’s venomous tentacles can deliver a painful (and sometimes fatal) sting and members of the public are advised to stay away from any washed up jellyfish.
