September 21, 2016

COURTS: A man who allegedly kicked and punched his pregnant partner in the stomach during a violent assault has had his case adjourned.

John Latta, aged 32, of Creatland, St Johnston appeared at Letterkenny District Court.

Inspector Goretti Sheridan told the court how the victim was kicked and punched in the stomach during the vicious attack which occurred on in August of this year.

Inspector Sheridan said, “The defendant punched and kicked the victim who was his partner at the time in the stomach, knowing she was pregnant.

“Both parties have a young child together, and the child was present during the assault.

“He delivered a series of punches to the victim and she sustained a cut to her head, but she didn’t receive any medical attention.

Solicitor for the defendant Kieran Dillon requested an adjournment for his client – as there was an issue regarding his bail conditions and access to see his child.

He was seeking a relaxation of the conditions imposed, and suggested that the injured party was going to withdraw the complaint.

However, Inspector Goretti Sheridan said she had no correspondence from the victim to suggest that she was willingly to relax the conditions set and that she was going to withdraw the complaint.

The case was adjourned until the 3rd of October.
