Today An Garda Siochana, RSA and the Donegal Road Safety Working Group will support European Day Without A Road Death (Project EDWARD), an initiative organised by TISPOL, the European Police Network in Europe.
To date this year, 134 people have lost their lives on Irish roads, an increase of 20 on the same period last year.
Eight people have lost their lives in Donegal while 26,300 lives were lost on Europe’s roads in 2015.
The aim of Project EDWARD is that no one should die on the roads of Europe on Wednesday 21st September. We are asking all road users to think about how they use the roads. We all have the power to make a real impact by making a simple decision – too often we take a risk and make the wrong choice – is that risk worth a life ?
Let us all work together to reduce death and serious injury on our roads.
