Former Donegal GAA star Eamon McGee has clarified what he meant when he spoke about Donegal’s preparation for their All-Ireland final with Mayo in 2012.
McGee, who retired this year after a wonderful career, joined David Brady and Aaron Kernan on ‘Off The Ball’ on Newstalk.
McGee said that two members of the panel went for two pints on the night they discovered who there opposition in the All-Ireland Final would be.
This was initially misinterpreted in the media, with reports suggesting the two Donegal players in question had two pints on the night before the All-Ireland Final.
Donegal Daily have spoken with Eamon McGee and he has stressed that this is not accurate and he never said that and it was misinterpreted by the media – Donegal Daily are happy to clarify this.
McGee’s story was meant as a compliment to Mayo, as he added that just two years later they were hoping to meet Kerry in the All-Ireland, as they wanted to avoid Mayo.
He also said that the team and management would never even think about doing that the night before a match.
