Controversial penalty dooms Harps to their eight consecutive defeat

The misery continues for Finn Harps as they lost in frustrating fashion against in-form Cork City at Ballybofey tonight.

A controversial 69th minute penalty by Sean Maguire proved the difference between the sides as Cork won 1-0.

Harps battled throughout the evening but had little if any luck with Ruairi Keaitng going close on two occasions.

This is the eight defeat in a row for Ollie Horgan’s side and the alarm bells will be ringing loudly as Harps trying to break off the shackles and get some much-needed points on the board.

Gary Buckley was apparently fouled by Harps goalkeeper Ciaran Gallagher for the penalty which Maguire dispatched well – much to the despair of the home fans.

Harps pushed the Leesiders all the way after Steven Beattie for his marching orders but they just couldn’t find the opening.

Dave Scully did go close towards the final whistle for Harps.

A draw might have been a fairer result but the Ballybofey outfit know are full aware than when your luck is out, it is out.
