Donegal Action for Cancer Care are asking you to be more aware about the signs, symptoms and the risk factors for mouth cancer.
The objective of Mouth Cancer Awareness Day is to raise public & professional awareness and to stress the importance of early detection.
There are more than 300 cases of cancer of the mouth (oral cavity and pharynx) reported in Ireland every year. It is the 6th most common cancer worldwide. Early detection of mouth cancer greatly improves chance of survival.

DACC are asking you to go to your dentist to check for signs of mouth cancer as part of your regular dental check-up.
Symptoms that you should have checked out:
Sore or ulcer that does not heal,
White or Red patches in the mouth,
A lump in mouth or neck,
Difficulty swallowing or chewing,
Sore throat or hoarseness
If you have any of symptoms for more than 3 weeks visit your dentist or doctor.
You should have a mouth check-up with you dentist even if you have no remaining teeth.
General Dental Practitioners around the country are participating by providing a free mouth check-up on Mouth Cancer Awareness Day 2016. Details of these can be got on the website www.mouthcancerawareness.ie
