Letterkenny Gaels Club Notes
The club would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Ciaran, Matthew, Sara May, Lucia and the extended Doherty & Gallagher family on the sad passing of Fiona Doherty, esteemed club member and friend. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam dhílis.
The senior lads had mixed results over the last two weeks in both league and championship action. First up they played out a victory over neighbours St. Mary’s, Convoy in the quarter finals of the Junior A Championship and last week in the league they were defeated by Buncrana. The reserve team also lost their game against the Scarvey outfit.
This Saturday evening the U-21 football team play Fanad Gaels in the quarter final of the U-21 B Championship. This match is in the O’Donnell Park with a 5pm throw in. Please come out and show your support.
Letterkenny Gaels Camogie hosted an U-8 & U-10 blitz recently with girls from Burt and Carndonagh visiting. Cheered on by proud parents and supporters, all the girls played some entertaining matches demonstrating skill and commitment. Gaels young team (girls are all U-9) showed that the training is definitely working with great tackling and striking. The fact that all the girls have another year at this grade shows great potential for a strong camogie team next year . The Gaels U-8 girls were split into teams and played a mini blitz. The club had 25 girls playing in total, a great squad for the future. Refreshments were served in the clubroom and thanks to all who provided buns etc.
Thanks to our visitors from Burt Camogie and Carndonagh Camogie for travelling.
Congratulations to Eimear Ui Bhaoghail, Anna McHugh & Ornaith Ui Fhearghail representing Donegal in the All Ireland blitz last weekend and taking part in the parade in Croke Park.
Training continues at Pairc na Gaeil on Friday 6-7 pm for U-8 & U-10 girls. Contact Aideen 086 816 3605 for information
Club merchandise, which includes training tops, track-suits, jerseys, hats etc. can be purchased in Michael Murphy Sports and Leisure.
Congratulations to our young hurlers Eunan Gallagher, Chloe Callaghan, Matthew Callaghan, Donal Farrelly and Cormack Farrelly who represented Letterkenny Gaels in the Cumann na mBunscol teams that played at half time during the County Senior Hurling Final.
On Thursday evening last our young U-12 hurling team, which comprises a mix of boys and girls, brought their roller coaster Championship season to a close with an away defeat to to a strong Carndonagh side. The sides were separated by three goals at the final whistle but this didn’t reflect the effort put in during the match by the Gaels.
Overall this was a great season for the team and with plenty of winter training they will be ready to roll for a great 2017 campaign.
Well done to Ray and the team.
