Gardai are hunting the occupants of a car which crashed and turned into a fireball on the outskirts of Ballybofey this morning.
The car, a Renault Megane, broke through a barrier before tumbling in a field and catching fire.
All three occupants miraculously managed to escape the incident and fled the scene on foot just before 6am.
Gardai were on the scene in seconds.
It is not know at this stage if the car was being pursued but it is understood Gardai were observing the movements of the car.
A local eye-witness said he does not know how the people in the car were not seriously hurt.
“I heard a bang and the next minute I saw this car in the field. Suddenly three people jumped from the car and ran off on foot.
“Just seconds later the car went up in flames. They were very lucky they were not trapped because the car is destroyed,” he said.
Garda forensic examiners are at the scene of the incident at Cappry Road, Ballybofey.
