Saturday morning fry up might just be put on hold following shocking figures in a new study.
A review of previous studies into the health effects of eating bacon has concluded with some rather bad results for those bacon lovers.
Eating three rashers a day can increase the risk of fatal heart disease by a quarter.
But it’s not just heart disease that bacon-lovers need to watch out for. The review also claims that pigging out on pork can increase the risk of diabetes by 32% and the risk of dying from cancer by 8%.
The review generally supported recent claims linking red meat to cancer, finding that eating over 100 grams of red meat a day “increases the risk of advanced prostate cancer and bowel cancer by 19% and 17% respectively” according to the Independent.
Red meat also appears to increase the risk of death from breast cancer by 15%.
This review reflects the WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer decision towards the end of 2015 to announce that red meat “probably” causes cancer.
