Shay Given had an afternoon to forget as his Stoke City side were hammered by Premier League title hopeful Spurs this afternoon.
Stoke City have failed to win any of their league games thus far this season, and this latest result will put manager Mark Hughes under increasing pressure.
Given could do little about any of the goals as a rampant Spurs side proved too good for Stoke this afternoon.
The former Republic of Ireland goalkeeper has played in every one of Stoke City’s league matches this season.
However, they’ll need to start picking up results soon as Mark Hughes spent big during the summer and will be under pressure to turn around the fortunes of his side.
Elsewhere cross-channel, Southend United Player of the Month and former Finn Harps star Stephen McLaughlin was introduced as a substitute at half-time.
Considering his form, his omission was a surprise, but Phil Brown’s side were hammered 4-0 away to Scunthorpe.
McLaughlin came on at half-time when Scunthorpe led 2-0, but could do nothing to turn the tide.
Stevenage’s Dale Gorman and Motherwell’s Carl McHugh were not involved this afternoon for their respective clubs.
Seamus Coleman will be in action on Monday night when Everton travel to the Stadium of Light to play Sunderland.
