A Donegal village has paid a touching tribute to one of their adopted sons who passed away in recent days – by putting up their Christmas lights.
The border village of Carrigans wanted to say a fond farewell to well-known electrician Damian O’Donnell who sadly passed away at Dublin’s Mater Hospital.
So last night villagers turned on their festive lights in honour of Damian who first wired the current festive lights in the town.
Damian, who is originally from Corkey, Manorcunningham, settled many years ago on Station Road in Carrigans.
He became heavily involved in the local community and was a driving force behind the local Tidy Towns committee.
A community spokesman said the Christmas lights were lit “to honour his immense contribution to Carrigans village.”
The spokesman added “We will sorely miss you Damian but we will always honour and thank you and your family for becoming a part of us. God Bless you buddy, and please God be with Nora, the boys, Damian mum and both families in this difficult time.”
Mr O’Donnell will be buried following funeral mass at St Baithin’s Church in St Johnston at 11am today.
May he rest in peace.
