Micheal Mac Giolla Easbuig was out putting up posters today for Meitheal Misneach which will be happening in the Ráth Chairn Gaeltacht in Meath 23-25 September.
Dúirt sé; “Bhí mé amuigh inniu ag crochadh póstaer fá choinne Mheitheal Misneach, a bheas ag tarlú i nGaeltacht Ráth Chairn 23-25 den mhí seo. Tosaíodh Misneach 4 bliana ó shin leis an teanga a chur chun cinn agus le troid ar ais in éadan na gciorruithe atá ag déanamh scrios ar phobal na Gaeilge agus na Gaeltachta”
“Misneach was started 4 years ago in order to promote the language and to protest against the vicious austerity measures being imposed on the Gaeltacht and the Irish speaking community throughout the island.”
“As well as organising talks and social events, Misneach have been very vocal in protesting the damage being done by austerity measures to the vitality of the Irish language, especially in key Gaeltacht communities such as those in Donegal. Funding for job creation in the Gaeltacht, for instance has been decimated in recent years.”
The event in Ráth Chairn will include talks by socialist historian Aindrias Ó Cathasaigh, language planning expert Dr. Brian Ó Curnáin, and language planner and Gaeltacht woman Bríd Ní Chualáin, as well as music, craic, a tour of the area and more.
“In the face of hundreds of years of colonialism, and now the assault of austerity, we need a strong left wing Irish language movement ready to fight for the future of the language and the Gaeltacht.
Bí linn i Rath Cháirn agus bí páirteach sa ghluaiseacht seo!
