This beautiful baby foal only came into the world just over a month ago, but has already proved to his carers at Donegal Donkey Sanctuary that he is a tough little fighter with lots of courage.
Timmy was been born with a deformity and his hind legs were bent and twisted, preventing him from standing or feeding normally. He had quite a severe problem with tendons around the fetlock area.
The staff at the sanctuary have stopped at nothing to help Timmy on his journey to good health, and he has come on leaps and bounds.
Unfortunately Timmy had a setback two weeks ago when the vet discovered that tendons in one of his legs tightened, causing the ball to become unaligned with the socket joint.
To help him with this, the farrier has fitted Timmy with a new set of prosthetic shoes which are glued to his tiny hooves using a special adhesive.
The vet is hoping that his new shoes will raise his back legs into a normal position and hold them there, and with time his right leg will strengthen and the tendons will tighten.
Donegal Donkey Sanctuary said;”Timmy was very relaxed when they were being fitted and even managed to ‘nod off’ during the process!”
“Our vet contacted University College Dublin in order to get a second opinion on his X-rays and current situation and they confirmed that these correctional shoes are the best option for him at the moment.”
Here’s a video of Timmy showing off his new high heels.
