2017 marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Ireland. In an official announcement was made by the Japanese Embassy of Ireland, they revealed which logo would be picked to represent the special anniversary.
As part of this celebration of friendship, a competition was held by the embassy to select an official anniversary logo.
Out of 548 entries, judges from both countries voted. The winning logo was designed by Cranford native Peter Mc Bride, a graphic designer and photographer who currently resides in Dublin.
The logo combines images of the sun and harp – both national symbols, to represent the solidarity between the two countries.
Peter will be awarded a return aeroplane ticket between Dublin and Tokyo!
The Japanese Embassy said; “The logo will be used throughout 2017 in all communication regarding activities associated with the anniversary. Officially recognised events commemorating the “60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Ireland” will be entitled to use the official title “Commemorative event of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Ireland” and the logo in all publicity materials.”
