Gardai have confirmed that a woman’s body has been recovered from the water off Kerrykeel pier.
It follows an incident before 1pm this afternoon in which a car was driven off the pier which is on the road to Fanad.
A young man who was passing the area attempted to get to the driver but the car sank.
The woman’s remains have been taken to Letterkenny General Hospital and a post mortem is to be carried out.
The woman, whose name has not been released, is aged 36 and from Letterkenny.
The Mulroy Coastguard and the Rescue 118 helicopter took part in the operation.
Condolences are extended to her family at this difficult time.
