Minister for Health Simon Harris paid an unofficial visit to embattled Letterkenny University Hospital yesterday.
The hospital has been under continuous strain in recent days due to overcrowding at the accident and emergency department.
The group which looks after the hospital, Saolta University Health Care Group, issued three different media statements in recent days saying the emergency department was very busy.
The media releases were issued on August 18th, 23rd and 31st and asked people to be patient when attending the hospital.
Saolta also encouraged people to visit their GP or the NowDoc service before attending the emergency department unless they feel their visit is genuine emergency.
It is not known the reason for the Minister’s visit to the hospital.
During his visit, Minister Harris was brought to see the hospital’s Medical Assessment Unit (MAU).
