Seniors
There was great delight on Saturday night at the Burn Road when the seniors, contrary to predictions during the week, recorded a 5 point victory over Gaoth Dobhair on a scoreline of 1-11 to 9 points.
The teams were level on 6 points each at half time, but Aidan Sweeney’s goal deep into the second half put us into the lead, and with some fantastic defending by Kevin and Michael and a 110% performance from every man on the field, we retained our lead and there was heartfelt applause for the men when the final whistle was blown.
Ricky, Kevin and Michael were singled out for inclusion in this week’s Donegal Sportshub team of the week, and we congratulation them for the recognition, but really, we could have filled the “Team of the Week” from no 1 to 15 based on performance, not forgetting our subs on the night!
Hugh Harkin, part of the management team with Francie, Michael, Paddy & Christy commented after the game “this one was because of and for the Duffer”. Saturday was the 4th Anniversary of Andrew’s death, and earlier in the day many club members had taken part in a guard of honour at the funeral Mass and burial of Frank Mellett, former player and grandfather of senior panel member Caolán Mellett.
Frank was buried close to where Andrew rests in Termon graveyard, and a minute’s silence was observed in memory of both men before Saturday’s senior game. As players left the Burn Road directly after the game to attend Andrew’s Anniversary Mass, the sense of community and shared loss was strongly felt by all who had known Andrew and Frank, may they both Rest in Peace.
This weekend sees the Four Masters come to the Burn Road in the final round of the championship group stages, and we hope there will be good support at the game.
The Reserves lost out in their game, but an under strength team plagued by injuries battled to the end, having been just 2 points down at half time.

Our U13s had a busy week with 2 home games against Glenswilly and Burt last Wednesday and Friday in the NRB Div 2 League competition. A 5 point victory in both games was a worthy reward for 2 gutsy performances. On Wednesday Thomas Cannon our Goalkeeper was the start with a string of fine saves with Oisin Kelly Mark Toye and Caolan Reid also to the fore. On Friday night Blake Boal, Kevin Mc Gettigan Jamie Doherty and Oisin Harkin were prominent against a very “big” Burt outfit. Next up it’s a trip to Mc Cumhaill Park tomorrow night (Wednesday) with a 7pm throw in.
Hard luck to our U16 boys who were defeated after Extra Time on Sunday last in the NRB Div 2 League Final. In what was a fantastic game Fanad lead from early on but goals were keeping our boys in touch and indeed were unlucky not to score a forth and winning goal in the last minute of normal time. Fanad proved too strong in the extra 20 minutes, their 3rd game in a row to win in Extra time. Congrats to Fanad Gaels on their victory. Next up it’s a huge challenge for our boys with St Nauls who breezed through the SRB League providing the opposition this Sunday in Glenties, 6pm throw in. Come along and support the boys in what will be a difficult assignment but one we know they will give their all in.
Our Minor boys concluded their NRB Div 2 Championship when they entertained Fanad Gaels at the Burn Road on Tuesday night. A 7 point lead for the visitors at half time left our boys with too much to do but our Management team will be heartened by the second half performance. Eóin Doherty scored the goal and with Michael Lagan in superb form in goals, Darragh Moyne and Eoin Kelly playing superbly in our back line, James Mc Sharry involved in all our best bits it was a true Termon battling display. Details of further fixtures will be known in the coming days.
