What great scores our Juniors are returning these days which is a great sign for the future of our club. Playing Monday last, 8th August, Patrick page [8] again broke standard scratch in returning 40pts which included birdies at Glebe [2nd], Stackyard [14th] and Stockade [18th], taking the turn at level par and 21pts to outpoint Ronan Daly [16] by one on 39pts.
Third placed was Oisin Randles [28] on 35pts and the Mc Brearty sisters, Sarah [35] and Mary Beth [30] fighting it out for the girls with Sarah winning out with 35pts and Mary Beth on 32pts. Best gross overall was returned by Cian Harkin [7] with 27 gross pts [34pts return].
Wednesday 10th, hosting the Mc Ginley Motors sponsored Open, saw a well deserved winner in Darragh Mc Menamin [5] who, with a birdie at par three 8th [Greenhill] followed by an unfortunate bogey at 9th [Crievesmith] took the turn at level par gross and with his only blemish on back nine being a bogey at Sheep Hill [12th], Darragh returned a magnificent one [1] over gross score 73 and 40pts. Runner-up, albeit on a three-way B.O.T., waswelcome visitor Kieran Harte [17], with 19pts on each nine, which included a birdie at 14th [Stackyard] giving him 38pts to relegate a fellowvisitor Patrick Lynch [15] to third on the countback.
Despite Patrick’s birdie at 16th [Barnhill], his two ‘blanks’ at 4th and 15th no doubt had him lose out on top spot. In fourth place was club stalwart Martin Gallagher [8] whose birdies at Hall Door [1st and 8th gave him a level par outward nine of 22pts but again his birdie at 16th was eliminated by a ‘blank’ at par three 13th [Hunters Home].
Saturday 13th welcomed a new sponsor to Letterkenny Golf Club in LimavadyPrinting Company and taking the honour of top spot was the popular Michael Boyd [18] who, starting with birdie at Glebe [2nd] but with a ‘blank’ at 6th [Hacketts Best], recorded 20pts on front nine and bettered it on back nine with 22pts for an overall return of 42pts, two points ahead of runner-up Damian Williamson [28] who, despite a ‘nightmare’ start of ‘blanks’ at 1st and 2nd, answered with birdies at the par three’s 5th and 8th holes but a few double bogeys on back nine had him lose out Michael. In third place with 39pts was Tom Redden [20] whilst best gross was returned by Michael Collum [7] with 30pts gross. Visitors prize was collected by Patsy O’ Donnell [17] with 34pts.
Sunday 14th saw the club host the long awaited for Club Classic and it’s popularity was again proven with over forty [40] teams taking part with thefollowing results: Winning team of John Russell, Elaine Russell, Lester Speer and Brian O’ Donnell, 94pts [B.O.T.] 2nd; Rory O’ Carroll, Dermot Rainey, Paul Mc Guckin, Tommy Greally, 94pts;

A good result by the ‘Seniors’ team, under the guidance of Kevin Kiely, who took two matches [2] from their 1st leg semi-final encounter away to Murvagh GC on Saturday last, playing the 2nd leg this Sunday with just one match and four holes down. Come out and support the club team who are the holders of this crown!
Congratulations also to the Bobby Mullally led Minor League team who defeated near neighbours Portsalon in their semi-final encounter in a very tight match at home and congratulations to club member Joe Coyle, unfortunately relegated to second by virtue of B.O.T in the Ballyliffin Golf Club Junior Scratch Cup.
