Fine Gael Minister of State Joe McHugh has welcomed the announcement by Minister for Agriculture, Food, and Marine, Michael Creed TD, of the establishment of seven new Fisheries Local Action Groups (FLAGs), which will work to support and develop fishing communities in County Donegal.
The FLAG North Ballyshannon to Muff will work to support and develop fishing communities in Donegal.
€12m is available to the FLAGS under Ireland’s Operational Programme for the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF).
Minister McHugh said; “FLAG North Ballyshannon to Muff will now receive funding to prepare a Local Development Strategy, in consultation with local communities in Donegal setting out the FLAG priorities for development and support in their area.”
“I would encourage everyone in fishing communities in Donegal to get involved in this process. The aim is to support job creation and promote innovation in local communities, as well as enhancing environmental assets and promoting each area’s maritime cultural heritage.”
“I’m delighted to welcome the beginning of this new FLAG process. Job creation and rural development are key priorities and I’m hopeful that the new FLAGs can create many opportunities for coastal communities in Donegal.”
