Dunfanaghy Golf Course was looking its best over the last week as the sun shone brightly and the course was in top class condition. On Wednesday 24th the McClintock’s very nearly made it a one two with Tom winning with a great score of 41 points. Tom beat his dad Jonny by three points however Jonny did manage to finish in third place with Conor Hanna taking second on 39 points.
On Friday the 26th of August, the Club held a very successful Open 3BBB Competition. The winners with a terrific score of 48 points from Blacklion Golf Club were Peter Conlon Dympna Conlon and Ciaran Dunne. In second place were Seamie Logue, Maggie Logue and Barbara Eakin with a score of 47 points. Also on 47 points and beaten into third place on BOT were Paul Smyth, Nigel Doherty and Andy Murray.
Thankfully we also had large numbers taking part in the Saturday open 4BBB. The winners with an outstanding score of 46 points were brothers Michael and Brian Gilfedder. In second place were Joe Terry and Seamus McCauley with 42 points narrowly beating John Chambers and Nigel Doherty on BOT.
In Sunday’s Club Stableford Competition, Max McGreevy won first prize with a great score of 41 points. Max’s handicap has been reduced significantly over the summer and no doubt he will get hit again after this win. In second place was another golfer who has had a lot of success over the summer. James T Sweeney had 39 points resulting in another handicap reduction. President Keith Lapsley won the gross prize with 30 points while Peadar Curran was third.
Junior Golf
Dunfanaghy GC’s junior golf section has enjoyed some great success over the last few weeks.
In mid August Luke Kelly and his teammates from his home club Belvoir Park won the All Ireland Junior Foursomes held at Clonmel GC. Luke sank long putts on the last hole in both the semi final and final to help his team win the trophy.
Congratulations also to Conor Hanna who finished third in the All Ireland Boys U12 championships held at Killymoon GC on the 23rd August. Conor finished the 18-hole competition on 3 over par finishing only two shots behind the winner.
Our U16 team have also reached the semi final of the Donegal Fourball Matchplay Championships with a comprehensive victory over Portnoo. The first pair of Conor Hanna and Luke Kelly won 3&1. The second pair of James Sweeney and Tom McClintock won 8&7 while the third pair of Kyle McGarvey and Ben Smyth won on the last. Good luck to the boys in their semi final match against Ballyliffin.
During the summer we also had some great performances from some of our other junior golfers.
Carlos O’Reilly won Keith Lapsley’s President’s Prize in the Senior boys section.
In the Juveniles Section, Michael Dolan came out on top while Jack Druce won the Cadets section.
In Denis Martin’s Junior Captain’ Prize the winner of the Senior Boys section was Eoin Flanagan who had the best score of the season with an incredible 48 points.
Michael Dolan maintained his consistent play by doing the double and winning the Juveniles Section while Tadhg Burke won the Cadet’s first prize.
All the boys made great speeches when collecting their prizes at the presentation ceremonies.
In last week’s Saturday competition, Jack Druce played some great golf to win the cadets section narrowly beating Caolan McFadden. Shot of the day went to Sean McBride with a fantastic approach shot into the 17th.
In the “Andy Ward Invitational Birthday Open (Juveniles Section), the birthday boy himself, Andy Ward came out on top followed closely by Lucas Wood and Michael Dolan.

We have hosted a number of private functions in the clubhouse recently and these have proved to be a great success. If you, or someone you know, is organising a private function please be aware that the clubhouse is available free of charge, with exclusive use for the
occasion. So far, the feedback that we have been getting is that the golf club is the ideal venue for parties of up to one hundred people. Please make contact with Sarah if you are interested in holding a function at the clubhouse (074 91 36335)
