The Finn Harps U19s side went joint top of the FAI National League on Saturday afternoon after Joe Boyle’s side secured a hard earned three points against Bohemians in Ballybofey.
Two Mark Coyle goals either side of Simon McGlynn netting gave the young Harps lads the result that brings the Donegal outfit level on 30 points with Dundalk at the top of the table. Boyle will be very pleased with this outcome as it leaves his side well positioned to get a home draw in the knockout stages of the competition.
The final score was 3-1 to Finn Harps.
However, there is still work to be done to guarantee a quarter-final at Finn Park as Harps still have two league fixtures remaining. The next game is away to Longford and their campaign finishes with a top of the table clash against Dundalk. On Saturday the hosts were 2-0 up at the break in a match that seen chances and saves at both ends.
“We probably edged the first half it and were delighted to go in with the goals from Mark Coyle and Simon McGlynn” Boyle said.
After the break Bohemians pushed Harps back and the home team was relieved to see Anthony O’Hagan saving a penalty midway through the second half. Meaney did give Bohs hope with a goal but the hosts exposed the visitors on the break through B.J. Banda, McGlynn, Dylan McCroary, Coyle and Declan Sharkey all combining to create numerous opportunities.
At the other end Ciaran Kelly, Paul Ferry and Daire O’Baoill coped with everything Bohs had to offer. When Coyle made it 3-1 Harps had earned another valuable home win with two remaining fixtures as they prepare for the play-offs.
