The new Mullantiboyle Bridge in Glenties is due to be opened next Monday at 11am. It will be opened by Councillor Terence Slowey, the Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council.
The old bridge crossed the Owenea River, and has been in use for over 100 years. It collapsed in September 2010 after a lorry crossed it during Glenties Harvest Fair.
Donegal County Council commented; “The bridge provides a vital link around the town and following a sustained campaign by local residents for its reinstatement, Donegal County Council was delighted to receive funding… to replace this collapsed bridge with a new wider 25m single span structure and associated works”
It’s estimated cost is €520,000 excluding VAT.
