GAA: Termon have produced the shock of the Donegal SFC thus far with a stunning five-point win over Gaoth Dobhair.
Francie Friel’s side produced a sensational performance to earn a deserved victory against the highly fancied Gaoth Dobhair.
Gaoth Dobhair with Donegal players Neil McGee, Kieran Gillespie and Odhran MacNiallais at their disposal many were tipped by many GAA pundits locally to go all the way in this year’s Donegal SFC.
Eamon McGee missed tonight’s encounter, but former Donegal star Kevin Cassidy started.
However, they now face a battle on their hands to get out of the group stages – and make the last eight following tonight’s result.
Daire McDaid was inspirational for the men from The Burn Road, he kicked six points, with three of those coming from placed balls.
Donegal minor star Enda McCormick, who scored that stunning goal last weekend at Croke Park against Galway, was a livewire all night for Friel’s side and was always one of their keys players.
A goal from Aiden Sweeney, just three minutes from the end was the decisive score, and ensured that Termon would secure another famous championship victory over Gaoth Dobhair.
Termon knocked Gaoth Dobhair out of the Donegal SFC in 2014, and they have proved once again that they’re Gaoth Dobhair’s bogey team.
Gaoth Dobhair now face Naomh Conaill next weekend, knowing nothing other than a win will be good enough to save their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages of the Donegal SFC.
Final score: Gaoth Dobhair 0-09 Termon 1-11
