Another mass protest is being planned by Right2Water for September 17th in Dublin to demonstrate their rejection of water charges.
The demonstration will begin at 2pm at Connolly/Heuston in Dublin.
Charlie McDyer of Right2Water said; “Fianna Fail planned water charges and Fine Gael implemented them. The massive opposition by the Irish people forced them to kick the can down the road but what they do not want to accept is the fact that the Country collectively told them that we will not accept these charges. Privatisation is clearly the goal now, even the dogs on the street know that. The fact that the EU waded into the row just further cements the agenda to own our water.”
Owen Curran said; “The EU Water Directive in 2000 did not direct Ireland to implement water charges nor did it prohibit Ireland from doing so. It was our own Government that introduced legislation in 2013 obliging Irish Water to introduce charging for domestic water services.”
Charlie concludes; “This fight is far from over. R2W is calling on Irish citizens to take to the streets once more. The Government thinks we will get bored or distracted and eventually give in.”
“If we, as a Nation, do not stand up to this blatent attempt at privatising our water then our children will pay for it, and not just financially. You need only look at other countries where water has been privatised. Our water is being coveted by the greedy eyes of corporations. Our constant rainfall is an endless supply of profit to them. We need to march in Dublin on September 17th and show them all that the Irish people are not backing down on this issue.”
